Coldplay - Sentebale at Kensington Palace

When Coldplay announced their involvement with Prince Harry’s Sentable charity in the form of a one off gig at Kensington Palace, ticket demand was unprecedented. In turn, the staging requirements were similarly demanding.

Production specialists Coloursound elected to involve Transition Video to handle all the live camera duties for the event, aimed at raising awareness and funds for work with adolescents affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.

Transition supplied a 4 camera broadcast PPU setup, 6 HD cameras and provided video playback for the event which was eagerly attended by fans and celebrities alike. Hosted by Tom Bradbury with performances from several supporting acts including Josh Stone, attendees mixed with royalty and celebrities whilst enjoying the show which included a special performance by The Basotho Children’s choir.

“It was good to be working with our old compatriots at Coloursound and our long-time friend and Coldplay video operator Ben Miles too.” Said Rhodri Shaw, CEO of Transition Video.

“Our biggest challenge here was the understandably high levels of security. It takes time for them to keep such a high profile event safe. Over the years we’ve encountered just about all the challenges any AV supply team might have thrown at them. However, this was unprecedented. That said, once you and all your team are screened and admitted to site, it’s just a fantastic place to stage a live show. We literally arrived with Glastonbury mud on our boots for this show. It was the perfect antidote and the results on stage were fantastic.”

The event was a huge success, raising much needed funds for Sentable. Prince Harry joined Coldplay on stage for the event’s finale, one of the summer highlights for live events.
